Pipeworks' marks the 50th anniversary of the death of Marcel Dupré

Sunday May 30 marked the 50th anniversary of the death of Marcel Dupré, one of the most significant figures in twentieth century organ music.  A product of the great French organ tradition, his contribution to the organ world was immense as concert player, liturgical musician (as organist of the church of Saint Sulpice for much of his life, in succession to Widor), pedagogue and composer.

Pipeworks honoured the event with a feast of Dupré’s music, sent in by organists from all over Ireland and further afield. We also celebrated the centenary of the birth of Jeanne Demessieux, one of Dupré’s most celebrated pupils. Contributions were shared on our social media channels throughout the day.
Sincere thanks to all the musicians who contributed in marking this most important anniversary in the organ world.

Artistic Director
