Pipeworks Call for applications for Artistic Director 2023-25

JOB TITLE: Pipeworks CLG Artistic Director 2023 to 2025 (on-boarding Q1, 2022, in time to submit the Arts Council application for funding for the 2023 Festival)
 

ROLE DESCRIPTION: part-time' position which will involve approximately an average of 'one-day's work' per week, in flexible hours over a nine-month annual period.

SALARY structure: € 5,000 per Festival Cycle

REPORTS TO: Pipeworks CLG Chair and Pipeworks CLG Board 

 

JOB OVERVIEW: 

The Artistic Director will be expected to devise an innovative annual program that will provide world-class cultural experiences for artists and audiences centred on Dublin’s and Ireland’s unique pipe organ patrimony and the country’s high level of choral singing, both ecclesiastical and secular. 

 

At the centre of this program is the annual Pipeworks CLG Festival. The Festival is expected to be multi-faceted in content and appeal, and to feature musicians of the highest national and international repute.
 

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Create and deliver a vibrant and financially viable annual Pipeworks CLG Festival

  • Create and deliver an annual program alongside the Festival, including a strong element of audience outreach and educational development.

  • Build on Pipeworks CLG existing strategic alliances with other arts bodies/organizations.

  • Actively promote and create further strategic alliances with other arts bodies/organizations to build the Pipeworks CLG Brand.

  • Utilize the Pipeworks CLG Artistic Associates’ expertise in artistic planning.

  • Utilize the expertise of those invited International artists.

  • Actively foster close ties with the NCH for the early evening recitals, and reinvigorate links with the Learn & Explore outreach program.

 

WORKING WITH THE FESTIVAL MANAGER

  • To assist in the completion of all grant applications, including those for the AC and DCC, in a timely fashion.

  • To coincide with grant applications, to assist in the planning and completion of annual budget and interim revised budget reporting, in a timely fashion, and in line with the reporting structure timelines, laid down by the Arts Council, and other grants bodies.  

  • To secure the bookings of artists for the forthcoming year’s programme and festival in a timely fashion, and in accordance with reporting timelines laid down by the AC application

  • (NB Pipeworks CLG is a newly incorporated company and as such, requires compliance under the CRO. The Artistic Director must at all times, be cognisant of this position in day to day financial functions and reporting).

  • To attend all Pipeworks CLG Committee and Board meetings

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful candidate will:

  • Have a minimum of three years’ experience in a senior management or leadership role in the arts, with an excellent understanding of the specifics of the organ and choral world, and a full understanding of the project management cycle of a festival.

  • Be a highly motivated person, hardworking and ambitious to lead the Pipeworks CLG Festival through its next phase of artistic and audience development, while also consolidating a sustainable and resilient business model.

  • Have a proven artistic and management track record, with demonstrable artistic vision and ambition.

  • Have strong leadership skills, with the ability to manage and guide both the organization and artists, and forge strong relationships both nationally and internationally.
     

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Position will include a six-month probationary period.

  • Within three months of taking office in 2023, the AD will be required to report to the Board on the feasibility and desirability of reinstating the International Organ Playing Competition on a periodic basis. This competition was last held as part of the festival in 2017.

  • The role will be offered as a three-year contract.

  • The role may involve some travel related to programming, advocacy and promotion of the festival, to be agreed in advance with the Chair and Board.

Timelines:

  • Panel Interviews will be conducted in October 2021.

  • Position to be announced November 2021.

  • The successful candidate will be expected to begin work in Quarter 1 2022, in time to submit the 2023 Arts Council Festival application and annual program of events.
